Summer of Fun 2012 - Swimming Lessons: All 3 weeks of 'em
One of the perks of being a homeschool family is the fun things we get to do during the day. During the winter we did ski lessons on Tuesdays. Now that spring has sprung we signed up for swimming lessons - 3 whole weeks of swimming lessons, every day.
I have noticed over the years that by taking lessons in May, when the public pool opens in June the kids have a lot of confidence in the water. I like that. I like that they feel like they can handle themselves in the water. Of course, I will still be around while they are swimming, but as they become more independent it's nice to know they can actually take care of themselves.
So, three weeks ago we started our lessons, every day at 12:45 pm. K2 started out in the baby pool but moved up to the big pool by week 2. At first he was on the stairs since he can't touch the bottom yet. By the end he was on the wall with all the other kids and I'm pretty sure he's part fish, steelhead of course! He started swimming all the way across the pool too.
Beanie really honed her skills over the three weeks in the pool. She also conquered her fear of the diving board and glides through the water with the greatest of ease. It was fun to watch her progress.
Both kids did a great job and I was very proud of them for their efforts. They took to it like.......well you know. It's nice to feel prepared for summer now. Yay!
